Observations of the General Conductor

A great composer is utterly more impressive than a great conductor.

A bad composer is utterly less impressive than a great conductor.

Today-with the Featured Soloist- the conductor has the spotlight at the orchestra, while the composers in residence are virtually unknown. The conductor has the loftiest praises for his composers in residence, while the audience- when it attends- has no praise for them.
